[Voice / Action]

[The journal clicks on, and bright smiling face comes into view. With two fingers up in a peace scene, Winry greets anyone who might be viewing.]

Hello, this is Winry Rockbell! I'm a mechanic and engineer specializing in prosthetic limbs, and the current Co-Owner of your very own local Smithy!

[With that she pans over so the journal gets a shot of the Smithy. Sitting on it's steps is a not-so-happy alchemist.]

We at the smithy are here to help you with plenty of your needs. Whether you need makeshift kevlar, a wheelchair, or even a bike we're here to help. We also have a weapons section, but that's not my department. And instead of showing you my old commissions I mentioned, today I will be showing you some new stuff I engineered. Most of it will be automail related, but don't worry! I can probably make some of this stuff separate too. Come on Ed, let's do some demonstrations.

[He doesn't budge, looking reluctant.]

Do I have to?

Yes! You said you would. You promised. [She emphasizes this by putting the hand not holding the journal on her hip.]

...Fine.

[But he doesn't have to like it. Up he gets, trudging over with the enthusiasm of a stubborn teenager. Since she's doing demonstrations with his automail, he's already in a pair of shorts, and as he approaches he shrugs off his jacket so both of his metal limbs are visible.]

Oh, oh! Show them the leaf blower first. I’m sure that kind of thing could be very helpful to people this fall.

[The journal gets one long-suffering look before he crouches down, fiddling with something on the ground; with the journal tilted down, it's shown that he's attaching a rounded extension to his automail arm, clasps holding it in place, with the attachment itself mostly covering his forearm and hand. There's a fan on one side.]

...That's it, right?

[Without waiting for an answer, he pulls the trigger on the inside, and a blast of air shoots out the short pipe at the front, and he staggers back a step or two.]

Whoa!!

Yes, perfect! Did you see that everyone? Raking leaves can be pretty annoying. Believe me, I’ve done if for years. But with this You can just blow them all away! Literally!

[She claps her hands together, and dances a little in place. This all makes her so happy and excited that she can barely contain herself.

Well, at least she's happy... Edward keeps the blower going for a bit longer, getting the hang of it after a bit, then stops before it takes up too much time. Even if he doesn't like the alterations himself, he likes making her happy, at least.]

Okay, what's next?

The grappling hook! Definitely do that one next. Watch closely everybody at home!

[He shoots her a wary look - he's still not sure about this one - but... okay, he trusts her. Removing the leaf blower attachment, he points his automail arm towards the roof of the smithy, aiming first, then hits a button. His hand shoots out like a coiled spring, clamping onto the edge and-]

That's fa-

[-YANK. The coil suddenly jerks him off the screen of the journal, and when it twists around back to him again, he's hanging off the roof of the smithy by a couple inches of coil and his locked hand, swinging back and forth and looking annoyed and disoriented.]

[She pans the journal over so the audience can get a good look at him.] This would work if my partner was a little more graceful. Hey, Ed! If you want to get down hit the release button!

[...Wait. She did install a release button, didn’t she?]

That's nothing graceful about a freaking- ....What release button?

[He tries the one button that was installed, and it winds the coil up even further, smacking him head-first into the base of the roof.]

Ow, goddammit...!!

Oh for goodness sake, Ed… Sorry everyone! Technical difficulties. [She shuts the journal to run over to go and help him.

Ed and Winry will both be on the journal in a bit and available for commentary... or they can be found just outside the smithy, trying to get Edward detached from the roof (and probably bickering about it). They'll figure it out eventually, nothing to worry about.

Later, Edward will be on his own. He hasn't forgotten the date, and even the lightheartedness of the afternoon's antics haven't made the words "October 3rd" leave his mind, merely push it to the back for a while. The whole point of carving the date into his watch was so he'd always remember, after all. This year, however, he's in something of a unique situation; Alphonse isn't around, but his mother is, and he has a house here that... essentially has become a home. Which is the whole reason for remembering the date in the first place- so he wouldn't stop his journey and go home before he's reached his goals. But... technically he's done that now. He knows how the story ends, even if his body doesn't match the memory.

Tradition and habit are difficult things to give up, though, so first he goes to his parents' house, mostly to bum around and give his mom the most inexplicable hug imaginable. Then he'll be outside House 23, doing his usual October-3rd bonfire. Feel free to visit and hang out.]
