[...So it's been a week. A full week since his parents had shown up in Luceti. And as of today, with the last bit of furniture in place, he and Al are officially "moved in". At least, in the sense of physically living there. Edward still finds himself looking out the window an awful lot and double-taking at the house number across the street, and at least three times now he's turned to approach the door of the Hughes' household instead of his own. He hasn't barged in unintentionally yet, at least. That would have been awfully embarrassing.

He's still not sure how he feels about this... home life. Thing. Adjustment is one thing, but actually coming to expect his mother's smiling face when he walks through the front door? It's a little scary. Wonderful in a lot of ways, but...

And that's not even getting into the issue of living so close to Hohenheim for this long, something he hasn't done since early childhood. And despite promising to give the man a chance, their relationship is tenuous at best, violent at its worst. He's still not calling the man "father", either. And there's poor Al in the middle, still stuck in his wheelchair... dammit...

Well, let's just say he's in desperate need of some distraction. So after giving it some thought, he turns to the journal-]

Hey, got a question for anyone listening out there-

I was talking to this kid a while back - Aoba - and something came up. Do we have some kind of directory of all the worlds people are from? I don't mean that world sharing class, I mean actual maps of all the different worlds, or countries within those worlds, or whatever.

Because if there isn't, then I'd like to make one. So if you wanna get involved, talk about where you're from here- show a map, gimme an idea of what it's like. I'll take what I can get.

[A little while later, he'll be venturing to his usual hotspots- the library, for some books for poor Al to read, and the Battle Dome, to take out some of his pent-up frustrations (and to duke it out with a few of the homunculus for kicks), then to the shops for a bit of perusing. He can be pestered around down at any time, looking uncharacteristically unsure, though he's been looking that way all week, so at this point it may not be anything new.

Eventually he'll return home to his family some time before dinner, carrying with him (in addition to Al's books) a toolbox, a bag containing some clothes, and a collection of sticky buns for dessert/snacking-

...but not before barging into the Hughes house accidentally. Apparently there really is a first time for everything.]

[Well, after you're done with your little house mix-up there, when you come home, it'll smell of cookies being baked. Though, they're still in dough form, but the scent wafts through the whole house.

Trisha will be humming along as she bakes, mixing up all them yummy things in a bowl in the kitchen.]

[She knows this voice, vaguely. The one that asked that question a while ago about people being okay with killing. And told her she needed to find things out for herself. This question is a little bit easier than that one, though. It's also something she's sort of curious about herself. She'd asked about other worlds before too.

It's a little cautious, but she's... slowly trying to open up a little on this particular issue.]

Just the worlds we're from, or others we know about too?

[The scent of cookies hits him the moment he steps through the door, and after hanging up his coat and discarding his boots, Edward follows the delicious smell right into the kitchen. It still strikes him, that surprise (that she's still here, that she's alive), that grief (that this is temporary, that she's still gone back home), that joy (that, for the moment, they have her back). He knows he should just be happy, elated, but that feeling is hard to kill. It hurts. It might always hurt. He really wishes he could just forget already.

She doesn't deserve this, and he really is trying, but... god, but it's hard.]

[It fades after a moment - faster every time, every day - and he sets the toolbox down on the table, stepping further inside to greet her, giving her the best smile he can muster. If he's allowed to hide anything from his mother, surely it's this pain.]

Hey, Mom. I'm back.

[...It's easier every day, too.]

[Oh wow, that's a surprise. Edward considers it for a moment, then nods.]

If you've seen other worlds or know about them, sure, that'd be fine. I'd have to make a note if it's just hearsay, but the more worlds I get, the more comprehensive the directory'll be.

[She turns around and smiles at him, setting the bowl down on the counter and wiping her hands on her apron.]

Hi, sweetie. Welcome home. I thought I should make some cookies for dessert. [Because omg she can get all the stuff she wants and not have to pay for it and this is glorious.]

[H... help... the last time he'd tried baking things had not gone well.]

I'd probably just ruin 'em if I touched them.

[Hiccup, none the wiser to anything Ed has been through in the last week, thinks this a fabulous idea and responds with ignorant excitement.]

Hey, that's a great idea! If you want a helping hand, I'm totally in. I have notes from world sharing class, too.

[You poor unsuspecting bastard. But he can fake it like the best of them, so here goes.]

[He'll just be over here, grinning as he speaks.]

No problem! But--it'd probably be a bit easier to give the notes to you instead of read them to you. Then you don't have to write them all done again. And not like I'll really need them for anything.

[His taking it in stride is, for her, a vote of confidence for her being more open about it.]

Well... I was there for around... ten or so months, so... not sure what that counts for. And I'm not sure any maps I'll draw will be any good, but... I'll still do what I can.

Are you at the smithy today? I have to head over there later anyway, so I can pick them up.

[He's crossed a fake alchemical gate into a dimension of nothingness (or blood and nothingness) four times already, he can totally handle a bit of world-hopping.]

That's long enough to get a feel for what the world is like, I figure. And like I said, I'll take what I can get.

Yeah. And I've got all my school stuff here, so that works. Why are you heading over?

I need to get some tools. I figure the smithy's the best place to look.

[Though why he'd be looking for tools will have to wait.]

...actually. I have a Christmas present from a few years ago that had maps from different worlds in it. It's kinda damaged, but there's a few still there if you wanted to take a look.

There are at least two instances of the world I come from. They have the same locations, but differ in history. These worlds have creatures called Pokemon, which separates them from others.

Whoa, seriously? That's great! I can make some copies and add it to the set.

I've seen that term around a few times, but I don't know what they are. Is there something special about them that makes that distinction important?

[Lots of worlds have weird species, surely. Just looking at Sokka's pets is proof enough of that.]

Many powers considered "magic" or "supernatural" by most people here are natural for some species of Pokemon. There are other distinctions, but I can't describe them well.

[When Ed barges in he'll find Winry... measuring herself. Yep. She's using a mirror in the living room to do it because her bedroom mirror has schematics and prototype plans taped all over it.]

[Keimi's voice squeaks in response. To her, this is so strange. No matter how long she'll be in Luceti, she will never get used to humans having genuine interest in her species, or her home. There will always be a part of her thinking it to be some kind of trap. But it's not like he asked her specifically, and Ed is really nice, when he wants to be.]

Would... human people really want to learn about Fishman Island?

I've found atlases from time to time in the library, but I don't think we have an official one for everyone here. I do know there's at people from at least ten different versions of my own world here.
